2017 Predictions: Jennifer Saha, National Director, Public Sector Councils, CompTIA

What will happen next year? We asked the experts.

2017 will be a year of transition in government technology with a renewed focus on technology improving government operations to more efficiently improve the lives of citizens. We’ll see this across the United States as the Internet of Things, open data and digital service delivery will continue to be the focus of government leadership.

While political changes are happening now in Washington, D.C., many of the technology industry leaders that make up our CompTIA SLED Council are already turning their focus to more than half of the state governments that will be gearing up for gubernatorial campaigns in 2018, including California. Ensuring government leaders, both currently in office currently and those campaigning for office, value technology as a critical component of successful governance will continue to be crucial.

CompTIA’s SLED Council, which serves as the voice of the IT industry serving state and local governments, will offer assistance and provide experience gained in both the commercial sector as well as at other governments to assist government in any way necessary to meet their technology goals. A definite transition in California’s administration in 2018 provides state government technology leadership the opportunity to tackle bold technological problems, and the industry knows these problems and stands ready with solutions to share.

Facilitation of open channels of communication between the technology industry and government will serve the purpose of aligning government with the best industry practices, as well as educating our future leaders on how the critical needs of government can be met using technology.
