California Legislative Website Is One of the Nation’s Best, Review Says

Data mining company FiscalNote says California’s is among the top five legislative websites in the nation, along with Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The official website of the California State Legislature — www.legislature.ca.gov — received kudos in a 50-state review of "the best and worst of state legislature websites" by a Washington, D.C.-based data-mining company.

As first reported by The Sacramento Bee, an Aug. 3 blog post by FiscalNote says California’s is among the top five in the nation, along with Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

"Our data team loves the California site," FiscalNote wrote. "They said it [has] ‘easy to extract information which is very clean and consistent.’ The second fastest legislature site, it loads in less than a second. Additionally, they recently updated their legislative information portal; but of course anything would have been better than the previous version."

The company deemed California’s website "good" in all three categories: Web speed, data and usability.

Rounding out the bottom-five "worst" sites are Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky and New Mexico.

Effective July 1, California added new features to http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov: digital signature and authentication technology, bill search enhancements and durable URLs.
