California Modifies Bid for Vendor-Hosted Storage as a Service

The California Department of Technology has decided to divide its solicitation for Backup Secondary Storage Services into two separate bids.

The California Department of Technology has decided to divide its solicitation for Backup Secondary Storage Services (BS3) into two separate bids.

The offerings procured through the bid will be added to the department's portfolio of Vendor Hosted Subscription Services (VHSS). In the VHSS model, customers pay a prenegotiated rate and pay as they go. The Department of Technology acts as a service broker.

"At this time, CDT has deemed it necessary to separate the IFB into two individual bid efforts, one for the off-premises offerings and another for the on-premises offerings," the Department of Technology said in July 19 correspondence.

The off-premises offering will remain within the original bid, which was released June 17. The on-premise BS3 offering will be included in a bid released at a future date.

The Department of Technology hosted an optional bidders conference for this solicitation on July 6. Final proposals for this bid are due Aug. 19. Contracts of as long as seven years will be awarded.
