Former Intel executive Ron Hurle came aboard in June as CTO, where as part of his duties he's providing direction and policy guidance to the CalPERS Information Technology Services Branch and aligning enterprise IT services and support, data center, applications and network across CalPERS business units.

The California Public Employees' Retirement System added this summer to the leadership team that manages its IT portfolio by filling the new role of chief technology officer.

Former Intel executive Ron Hurle came aboard in June as CTO, where as part of his duties he's providing direction and policy guidance to the CalPERS Information Technology Services Branch and aligning enterprise IT services and support, data center, applications and network across CalPERS business units.

At Intel from 2000-09, Hurle was a vice president and general manager over worldwide IT operations and services, including the company's data centers, leading 1,700 employees in 27 countries, according to CalPERS.

Most recently, Hurle was managing director of Business Leadership Partners LLC, management consulting firm based in Flagstaff, Ariz.  He also was chief operating officer of VMC (2012-14), vice president of client solution for Volt Information Sciences (2009-12) in Sacramento, operation director for CDI and support services director for NCS Pearson.

"He has experience being an  executive mentor, facilitating leadership workshops and being a customer service trainer," CalPERS said in a staff email this summer.

From a philanthropic standpoint, Hurle participated in disaster relief efforts for the Pacific tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, and has been United Way executive representative and a Junior Achievement Instructor.

Hurle is reporting to CalPERS CIO Liana Bailey-Crimmins.

CalPERS is continuing to work on a variety of enterprise IT projects, such as the optimization of the myCalPERS system and business intelligence transformation.
