The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) released on Dec. 10 an RFP for a data backup, restore and disaster recovery solution.
According to the bid document, respondents are encouraged to “consider all options” in delivering a cost-effective system that provides off-site recovery and real-time access.
CalPERS plans to award a five-year contract for this bid. The solicitation will be done in two phases. Qualifying bidders under this first phase will be invited to phase two, which will include a vendor questionnaire.
Responses to the phase one RFP are due Dec. 28.
CalPERS lists the key objectives of the RFP:
1. Identification of a hosting facility/solution with the necessary equipment, space, connectivity,
and security management to restore technology services in an outage, system failure, or declared
disaster
2. Design and deployment of a fully integrated data backup and restore solution;
3.Implementation and management of a DR solution that enables CalPERS to leverage both a cloud and infrastructure platform to recover its systems at a remote location;
4. Restore CalPERS critical applications within Recovery Time Objectives and Recovery Point Objectives for system continuity;
5. Increase virtualized systems at the Proposer’s remote facility to synchronize/replicate data from CalPERS headquarters;
6. Technical support for CalPERS IT recovery operations and up to two planned DR tests per year;
7. Adherence to federal, state, and local requirements for retaining electronic data
