CalPERS to Reissue RFP for Disaster Recovery and Data Backups Services

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) announced Friday it's expecting to release a Request for Proposal for a Data and System Backup and Restore, and Data and System Disaster Recovery (BR/DR) solution by the end of this month.

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) announced Friday it's expecting to release a Request for Proposal for a Data and System Backup and Restore, and Data and System Disaster Recovery (BR/DR) solution by the end of this month.

CalPERS released a similar bid proposal about a year ago, but it was later canceled because it included unspecified recovery times. The organization's current BR/DR contract is six years old and will come to an end on June 30. CalPERS recently asked its board to approve a one-year, $2.2 million extension of the current contract in order to give more time for the new RFP and the eventual transition to the new contract.

"The extension of the contract for one additional year through June 2018 will provide the vendor time to implement the BR/DR solution and ensure there is no lapse in data backup or recovery services," a CalPERS agenda item said.

CalPERS plans to award the new contract in summer 2017 and have the BR/DR solution implemented by June 2018.

Here are eight other IT projects in progress at CalPERS.
