Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger first appointed Butler to the position in 2008. Gov. Jerry Brown reappointed Butler, 47, to the position this week, according to the governor’s office. Butler previously worked in positions as director of procurement services for Levi Strauss and Company and a senior manager at Dell.

"I am grateful for the Governor’s support and look forward to implementing the Administration’s initiatives to reduce the cost and improve the effectiveness of government," Butler said in an email. "Key areas of focus will include continued improvement of IT procurement procedures where DGS efforts have reduced the time to complete complex systems integration procurements by nearly 50%, and implementation of the Fi$Cal system which will replace procurement systems across the state."

The Department of General Services procurement division serves as the purchasing authority for state departments and agencies.
