RFQ: Cloud-Based Building Permit Tracker

The solution will be used to manage workflows for two CAL FIRE divisions — the Fire and Life Safety and Fire Engineering Divisions — including applications, plan reviews, inspections, Certificates of Occupancy, licenses, operator registrations, contractor registrations and other types of licenses.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is soliciting proposals for a cloud-based system that will allow users to view building permits in real time.

The solution will be used to manage workflows for two CAL FIRE divisions — the Fire and Life Safety and Fire Engineering Divisions — including applications, plan reviews, inspections, Certificates of Occupancy, licenses, operator registrations, contractor registrations and other types of licenses.

The Fire and Life Safety Division "is the main entity to provide for application/enforcement of regulations as related to fire safety, fire prevention, life safety, fire protection systems and protection of building construction."

The RFQ for the Cloud-Based Building Permit Tracker describes the present-day workflow:

Deficiency notices are issued by the Fire & Life Safety Division as citations and must be signed by the facility representative. Currently the Fire & Life Safety Division deploys field staff with laptop computers and portable printers. However, the wear and tear on both the laptop computer and the portable printers is substantial. ... Additional issues with the current arrangement include the inability to access in “real time” the current status of deficiencies as the citation is not able to be viewed by others unless it is scanned and emailed out to specific people.
RFQ responses are due Nov. 8. Key action dates are subject to change. Go to the state's procurement website for more information.
