A Folsom, Calif.-based IT consulting firm has won a big piece of the state of California's child welfare system modernization project.

The state Child Welfare Digital Services (CWDS) organization announced Friday that OnCore Consulting has been selected to provide deployment and implementation services for the project's Intake Digital Service, "the process by which child welfare professionals in California’s county Child Welfare Agencies investigate allegations of child abuse, neglect and exploitation."

The contract is worth $10.8 million, sources tell Techwire.

"The new Intake Digital Service will be an easy-to-navigate and efficient way to record and access information regarding child abuse, neglect, exploitation allegations, investigative findings and outcomes. The new service will provide comprehensive information that allows child welfare professionals to make timely, informed decisions regarding child safety," CWDS announced.

Approximately 7,000 staff across the state, and another 18,000 social workers, public health nurses, probation officers and other professionals are expected to access Intake information as part of their work.

CWDS also expects to award separate contracts this month for programming services, agile coaching and a data conversion project.

The Child Welfare System — New System (CWS-NS) is one of California’s largest IT modernization efforts, and its intake system will be one of the first parts developed under the project's revamped approach, which is using agile design principles and is divided into multiple bid opportunities, or "modules."
