Assemblyman Jay Obernolte is renewing Republican efforts to codify into state law Gov. Jerry Brown’s cybersecurity center.
Brown created the California Cybersecurity Integration Center in a 2015 executive order, directing state leaders to craft a cybersecurity strategy for the state. The center currently operates out of a secure location overseen by the Office of Emergency Services.
AB 2595 by Obernolte, R-Big Bear, would authorize the Director of Emergency Services to administer, authorize and allocate federal homeland security grant funding. As called for in the governor’s executive order, that funding must be prioritized for prevention measures undertaken by the Office of Information Services at the Department of Technology, according to the bill language.
A similar bill by former Assemblyman Eric Linder, R-Corona, stalled last year in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. The bill has not yet been assigned to a committee.
