Whether it’s a big contract or a project in the early planning stages, the Techwire team is constantly tracking initiatives and contracts with the goal of giving our users better insight on what’s happening in California’s technology sector. Here’s a look at six IT projects in the works at city and county governments you may have missed:

  • The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner is looking to renew a contract with MorphoTrak LLC for its automated biometrics identification system. The county’s Board of Supervisors is scheduled to discuss the proposal on Dec. 13. The maximum total contract amount has been set at approximately $7 million for the period of Dec. 18, 2016, through Jan. 26, 2018.

The Dec. 13 meeting agenda also includes an item from the Orange County Social Services Agency requesting authorization to enter an agreement with the California Office of Systems Integration to provide consulting services for the county’s Child Welfare Services New Systems Project.
  • The Riverside Police Department has selected vendor Coban Technologies Inc. for its body-worn camera program. The department is seeking approval from City Council to purchase the devices for a total cost of $286,454, according to Dec. 6 council meeting documents.

  • According to City Council meeting documents from the end of last month, the Oakland Citizen’s Police Review Board (CPRB) asked for authorization to forgo competitive procurement requirements to contract with Microsoft Corp. for services, software and license necessary to build a CPRB database and case management system. The contract cost is currently set at $130,000.

Looking to make the same move, the Police Department is requesting waiving the RFP process to procure forensic lab supplies, service and software on an “as-needed” basis for a total cost of $1.4 million from multiple vendors. The City Council is scheduled to discuss this topic at a Dec. 6 meeting.
  • Last month, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department proposed signing a three-year agreement with TelMate Inc. to provide inmate and ward telephone services. The two agencies released an RFP for the project, which stated the service would be required to interface with the Sheriff’s Office commissary and jail inmate systems, and the Probation Department’s information systems. This item is included on the Board of Supervisor’s meeting agenda for Dec. 6.
