West Sacramento Examining City's Broadband Services

West Sacramento wants feedback from its residents about their broadband connections as the city deals with increasing demand and looks for solutions that improve service.

The city invites citizens to complete a survey posted online this week.

"The city of West Sacramento is in the process of developing a strategic plan, which will assess existing demand and capacity for fiber-based broadband used by residents," the city wrote.

The questionnaire asks people to provide basic information about their service to the home, their bundled services, how satisfied they are with their Internet connection speed, and the minimum download speed they want.

West Sacramento did a similar survey of businesses earlier this month.

A strategic plan for broadband that Yolo County completed in 2015 recommended that West Sacramento continue to develop its broadband infrastructure, such as "developing a GIS-based map that  identifies the city locations that should be interconnected, including the city’s current infrastructure; installing conduit with all public projects; and expanding the city’s capability in negotiating agreements for private providers to utilize the city’s infrastructure for public benefit."

In a survey of West Sacramentans for that strategic plan, 46 percent said they use AT&T DSL and UVerse Internet Service; 41 percent use Wave Broadband cable Internet service.
