Meeting on Friday: DGS Preparing to Issue Cloud Computing Regulations

The California Department of General Services (DGS) will hold a public meeting on Friday, May 30 to discuss how the state will engage in cloud service contracts and software as a service (SaaS). The Friday meeting is the final scheduled step in the development process before publication of a revised “Cloud Computing Services Special Provisions SaaS.”

“Across the country,” said a DGS spokesperson, “public-sector agencies are rapidly moving towards cloud computing. California is no different. In line with Governor Brown’s direction to improve the efficiency of government operations and cut taxpayer costs we are moving quickly towards software as a service.”

The goal of Friday’s meeting, said the spokesperson, is to look at public cloud service contracts, as well as terms and conditions developed by DGS – in consultation with the Department of Technology – and offer a forum for members of the public and technology community to provide feedback.

The meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in the DGS Auditorium at 707 3rd Street, West Sacramento, Calif., 95605. Members of the public may register for the meeting by emailing PPO@dgs.ca.gov.
