Story #6: Joe Panora, director of Enterprise Information Services (EIS) at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, intends to retire at the end of the year. A 35-year veteran of state government, Panora began his career with the state in 1980, with stints at Caltrans, the Franchise Tax Board, the Employment Development Department, the Controller’s Office and the California Youth Authority. Panora served as EIS director and agency CIO at Corrections since 2008. He was present during several business and IT transformation and technology initiatives, including the implementation of a system to streamline financial, human resources and business processes; a statewide automated online inmate visitation appointment scheduling system; and a single integrated Strategic Offender Management System. He said his retirement will be effective Dec. 30, 2014.
