4 California State Tech Projects Receive Achievement Award

In tandem with the annual Best of the Web Awards, four technology projects initiated by California state agencies and departments joined dozens of others as winners of the 2016 Digital Government Achievement Awards (DGAA).

In tandem with the annual Best of the Web awards, four technology projects in the state of California joined dozens of others as winners of the 2016 Digital Government Achievement Awards (DGAA).

The awards, from the Center for Digital Government (operated by Techwire's parent company, e.Republic), highlight outstanding agency and department websites and applications. Awards were presented in seven categories.

Here's more detail about the projects from California:

In the "Government-to-Citizen State and Federal Government" category, the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) MyFTB application. MyFTB provides online access to account information and services for individuals, businesses and tax preparers. Registering for an account is required to use MyFTB. Users can look up their account balance, payment history, view California wage and withholding information, and more.

In the "Government internal" category, implementation of Personal Duress Alarm Systems at California State Hospitals. Recognizing safety concerns, thousands of hospital staff statewide at several state hospitals and facilities now have duress alarms around their necks and their location is tracked at all times. If something happens, they can pull the alarm and it broadcasts their exact location down to within three feet.

In the "Government-to-Business" category, the California Department of Insurance’s Portal Solution. In August 2015, CDI rolled out its online Consumer and Healthcare Provider Portals, followed by a phased rollout of its licensee portal between October 2015 and February 2016. Both solutions replace paper-intensive processes. With the new portal and online site, users can now submit complaint applications at all hours and follow their case file as it moves through the system. Providers and licensees have their own secure portals for managing cases and documentation.

In the "Driving Digital Government" category, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation also won an award for its Employee Health and Safety Program.

Local projects also were recognized, including seven from cities and counties in the Golden State:

Alameda County — Permit Portal; City of Long Beach — Alert Long Beach; OpenSF — San Francisco Open Source-based Mobile Platform; Los Angeles Countywide Integrated Pest —Management Program Website; Sacramento County — Service Management and Reporting Tool (SMART); Sacramento County, Civic Technology Outreach — Hack4Sac; County of San Diego — County Constituent Relationship Management (CCRM).
