RFP: Department of Technology Vendor Hosted Storage-as-a-Service

The California Department of Technology is inviting vendors to submit proposals offering backup storage-as-a-service off premises or on premises to customers in state and local government and education.

The California Department of Technology is inviting vendors to submit proposals offering backup storage-as-a-service off premises or on premises to customers in state and local government and education.

Storage-as-a-service (STaaS) will join other services — infrastructure as a service, Web hosting, Project and Portfolio Management, Remedy on Demand, and Customer Relationship Management — in the department's portfolio of Vendor Hosted Subscription Services (VHSS).

In the VHSS model, customers pay a prenegotiated rate and pay as they go. The Department of Technology acts as a service broker.

Final bids for STaaS are due Aug. 5. Contracts as long as seven years will be awarded.

The Department of Technology sought input on its STaaS offering from the vendor community through a Request for Information sent out in April.
