How California Cities' Spending Stacks Up

Here is another look at California's local government spending. This time, the focus is cities. California is home to a diverse business ecosystem and four of the top-spending cities in the U.S.

On Thursday, Techwire ran a story that described the top eight IT budgets in California. The story has been edited to reflect that the budgets discussed reflect overall spending. Techwire had previously reported these numbers represented IT spending.

Here is another look at California's local government spending. This time, the focus is cities. California is home to a diverse business ecosystem and four of the top-spending cities in the U.S.

San Francisco's total $10 billion city budget is as much as Washington, D.C., and is only second to New York's $73 billion.

The city of Los Angeles follows San Francisco and spends just $1 billion more than Chicago, at $8 billion in total expenditures.

San Diego and San Jose's budgets come in at $3 billion, close to what the other top 20 cities spend.
