Industry Coalition Names Majority Leader Ian Calderon ‘Tech Champion’

Given by industry group CompTIA, the 2017 California Tech Champion award recognizes Calderon’s consistent support and advocacy of the technology industry in the state.

Assembly Majority Leader Ian Calderon was announced as 2017 California Tech Champion by technology industry group CompTIA.

Calderon has played a key part in several technology-related initiatives within the California Legislature, including creating the California Technology and Innovation Caucus, made up of 11 state lawmakers. The group, which Calderon now co-chairs with Assemblymember Evan Low, kicked off its welcome reception in January 2016.

Earlier this month, Calderon introduced AB 86, a measure that would establish an Entrepreneur-in-Residence program to recruit as many as 10 individuals a year to state government who have successfully developed, invented or created a product and brought the product to the marketplace. He is also author of the Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (AB 691), which allows individuals to choose whether or not they want information stored on their online accounts to remain private after they die.

The Tech Champions award recognizes Calderon’s work on these efforts, as well as his consistent support and advocacy of the technology industry.

“We are honored to present Majority Leader Ian Calderon with our 2017 Tech Champion Award for his continued efforts and support of the technology industry here in California,” said Kelly Hitt, CompTIA’s director, state government affairs of California in an announcement. “As many states look to California as a leader in innovation, it is important that our elected officials support legislation that will boost the digital economy. Our Tech Champions are strong voices for the technology community and are helping to ensure that our industry continues to succeed.”
