Key IT Jobs Open With State, Cities

For those interested in positions of IT leadership, a few key leadership positions have opened up in state government.

For those interested in positions of leadership in government tech, a few key positions have opened up in state and municipal government.

The state Franchise Tax Board (FTB) is recruiting for a division chief/chief information officer with experience in managing large projects and teams and who is familiar with FTB’s Enterprise Data to Revenue (EDR) Project, the technology and the future business opportunities. The posting says the position salary range is $6,913 to $15,885 per month, and the application deadline is Feb. 6.

The California Health and Human Services Agency’s Office of Systems Integration is seeking both a director and a chief deputy director.

The director’s position requires “knowledge of political strategies and maneuvers, fiscal expertise, and the general managerial experience necessary to lead an information technology organization.” Candidates should have the “ability to plan proactively, react to adversity effectively, and organize, direct and coordinate multiple IT projects while operating under strict project schedules and deadlines.” Deadline to apply is Jan. 21. Salary is posted as “negotiable.”

The chief deputy position calls for someone who can “ensure alignment of OSI project practices with statewide IT policy and strategic initiatives (e.g., enterprise architecture, leverage IT infrastructure, interoperability and data integration), and collaborate with other departments and offices within the Agency on project management processes, procedures and best practices.” The deadline to apply is Jan. 18, and the salary range is $6,913 to $15,885 per month.

And San Jose, the 10th-largest city in the U.S., has just posted an ad seeking a city information security officer (CISO). But, “San Jose does not seek a conventional CISO,” the job posting says. “Emerging challenges move too quickly and are too varied for traditional audit/spend/fix approaches. Therefore, the City’s CISO must be able to apply expertise in security strategy, educating and habituating diligence, cybersecurity frameworks, managing a mix of staff and vendor services, leading incident management, optimizing resources, and achieving desired security outcomes.”

The posting began Thursday, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The CISO job has an annual salary range of $133,868 to $208,668.
