LAUSD to use Microsoft Office 365 for email, cloud

The Los Angeles Unified School District has selected Microsoft Office 365 as the email client for their faculty and staff.

In a statement, LAUSD chief information officer Ron Chandler cited Microsoft Office 365’s cloud capabilities as the reason it was chosen, so that LAUSD "to move away from relying solely on our datacenter."

"With Office 365, we are supported by an integrated communication and collaboration platform that helps us work more efficiently and deliver better outcomes for teachers, administrators and students… the cloud enables us to free up resources and devote them to other mission-critical activities."

Office 365, in addition to email, will also provide online document sharing, videoconferencing, instant messaging and emergency communication to faculty and staff.

"An innovative and forward-thinking district is one that supports the modernization of its schools for the benefit of its faculty, staff and ultimately its students," said vice president of U.S. Education for Microsoft, Margo Day, in a statement. "There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Unified School District is leading the way in advancing educational processes through cloud technology."
