Roseville Looks to App to Boost Engagement

The city of Roseville wants to use technology to engage the community through a tech-savvy response program.

The city of Roseville wants to use technology to engage the community through a tech-savvy response program.

The city council made civic engagement a high-priority goal for 2017-18, and in response, officials are looking for ways to build conversations and “to engage the community in prioritizing city services and levels of service that are expected within projected budget constraints,” the project site reads.

The city also has an Open Data Portal that includes data sets such as permits and crime statistics.

Currently, city budgets are posted online, and residents can respond through email or phone calls. Social media and email subscriptions about policy and city conditions are also available.

“The city is exploring opportunities to use newer technologies such as Facebook Live and online town halls to enhance opportunities for information sharing between government and the people it serves,” the site reads.

The city is finalizing a contract to build a Web application through which residents will find explanations of what each department and division budget does, and be able to leave notes and comments.

The Web app contract should be finalized next month, the city’s CIO Hong Sae told Techwire.

The next steps will include finalizing how residents can interact with the app.
