San Diego CIO Jonathan Behnke has over 20 years of IT experience managing and implementing technology for a broad range of industries including public sector, contract services, oil, construction, automotive, distribution, consulting and manufacturing.

He oversees the technology strategy and operations for America's eighth-largest city including data center, network, voice, public safety wireless communications, Web services, enterprise applications, portfolio management, cybersecurity, GIS and data analytics. His department supports more than 11,000 users and 1.4 million residents.

Behnke also serves on the board of directors for SanGIS, a city-county joint-powers authority responsible for maintaining a regional GIS land base and data warehouse. In support of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services, he also serves on the California Cybersecurity Task Force. Behnke is also a member of the MetroLab Network Smart Cities Initiative, the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center, the Municipal Information Systems Association of California, San Diego Infragard, and the Metropolitan Information Exchange, representing a group of CIOs from the nation’s largest cities and counties.

The briefing is open to Techwire insiders, and advance registration is requested. Joining Behnke for the briefing will be Dennis Noone, managing editor of Techwire.

Techwire virtual briefings generally include discussion about the subject’s agency, its IT budget and strategic plan, a look ahead to any significant RFPs or other procurement opportunities, and guidelines on how vendors and others may do business with the city. Audience members are encouraged to log in to the website for the briefing and use the chat function to suggest questions for the moderator to ask the guest. Questions for Behnke may also be emailed in advance.

The Nov. 1 briefing with Behnke begins at 10 a.m. and is expected to run for about an hour.
