Secretary of State Adds Another 5 Million Records to Business Search Tool

The website provides records related to corporations, companies and partnerships, formations, registrations, amendments and mergers, along with millions of downloadable PDF images of Statements of Information.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla announced this week the release of an additional 5 million searchable and downloadable business records now available online on the California Business Search tool.

The website provides records related to corporations, companies and partnerships, formations, registrations, amendments and mergers, along with millions of downloadable PDF images of Statements of Information.

With the additions, there are more than 10 million records available.

“Our new California Business Search tool is changing the way we do business. In the past, if you wanted access to basic business filings related to corporations, LLCs, or LPs, you had to make a formal request and pay a fee — and it could take weeks,” Padilla said in a statement.

“We live in an era in which nearly every aspect of our lives is enhanced through technology. At the Secretary of State’s office we are now scanning and uploading millions of documents, making them readily accessible and downloadable. We’ve already seen a significant reduction of requests for paper copies of filings, helping us operate more efficiently. Business owners, the press and consumers deserve easy access to these important documents,” Padilla added.

The search tool was launched in December 2016. The application was moved to Microsoft Azure to streamline performance and enhance resiliency.
