California Secretary of State Alex Padilla has published a short video recapping the digital initiatives his office undertook in 2017, a pivotal year for technology and related businesses in the state.

Perhaps no change has drawn as much attention as the state’s legalization of recreational marijuana, which has created numerous opportunities for IT vendors and service providers. Padilla’s department created a site called Cannabizfile, designed to facilitate licensing and other administrative functions related to commercial cannabis sales.

In addition to a half-dozen links to informational resources, the Secretary of State website also includes a link to the state’s California Cannabis Portal, which describes itself as “a valuable resource and a one-stop shop for all things related to the state’s effort to regulate the cannabis industry.”

During 2017, Padilla’s office said, it also helped more than 185,000 business owners file their annual LLC Statements of Information online and launched six new digital archive exhibits.

To summarize these and other initiatives, Padilla’s department posted a video on Facebook.

The digital archive exhibits cited by the department include nearly 3,000 photographs taken by native Californians William M. and Grace McCarthy from roughly 1905 to 1938.
