California Department of Conservation Names New CIO

Catherine Kendall worked for KAI Partners, where as part of her duties she provided the Department of Conservation with project management services for implementation of a well management and data reporting system for the department's Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR).

Catherine Kendall is the new CIO of the California Department of Conservation.

During the course of her career, Kendall has worked for system integrators on some of the state's largest IT projects, such as the California Medicaid Management Information System (CA-MMIS) and the Child Welfare Services case management system.

Kendall most recently worked for KAI Partners Inc., managing service delivery of the Roseville-based firm's project management practice.

"So why did I take the CIO position? It is simple. I took the job at Conservation because this is an opportunity to use my IT experience to facilitate the protection of California’s natural resources and support the safety of both humans and wildlife," Kendall said in a statement from KAI Partners.

It was an opportunity she couldn't pass up, she said.

Kendall has worked in the IT industry for more than two decades, including more than 10 years at IBM, where she worked as a project executive for multiple contracts at the New York State Project Office, a project executive for California's Child Welfare Services case management system, and other roles.

She left IBM in 2010, and moved on to CGI, where she managed a $160 million contract CA-MMIS.

Kendall worked for KAI Partners for the past five years. As part of her duties, she provided the Department of Conservation with project management services for implementation of a well management and data reporting system for the department's Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR).

In component of the project, OnCore Consulting is the system integrator for a project that's in the planning phases called "WellSTAR," system that will enable statewide tracking and reporting of well data.

Kendall is filling the CIO position vacated by Terese Matchim, who voluntarily returned to her former employer, Covered California.
