CalPERS Shuffles Executive Leadership for IT

CalPERS CIO Liana Bailey-Crimmins has become acting deputy executive officer for Benefit Programs, Policy and Planning, taking on the role formerly held by Doug McKeever, who last week was announced as the chief deputy executive director for program at Covered California. CalPERS Chief Technology Officer Ron Hurle has been named the Interim Chief Information Officer at CalPERS, the pension system confirmed to Techwire.

CalPERS is shuffling its IT leadership in order to fill one of the organization's top executive positions.

CalPERS CIO Liana Bailey-Crimmins has become Acting Deputy Executive Officer for Benefit Programs, Policy and Planning, taking on the role formerly held by Doug McKeever, who last week was announced as the chief deputy executive director for program at Covered California.

CalPERS Chief Technology Officer Ron Hurle has been named the interim chief information officer at CalPERS, the pension system confirmed to Techwire.

Bailey-Crimmins was named CIO of CalPERS in 2013, and she has worked in IT positions for more than 25 years. She was IT director and CIO of the California Correctional Health Care Services from 2010-2013. Before CCHCS, she worked as the Project Director of the California Information Technology Infrastructure Project and supported connectivity of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Strategic Offender Management System (SOMS) and Business Information System (BIS).

In her new position at CalPERS, Bailey-Crimmins is responsible for all areas related to health care and contracts for carriers, billing reconciliation, long-term care, and state and federal health care, and pension policy, legislation and regulations.

Bailey-Crimmins has worked in the IT field of numerous state departments, including the State Controller’s Office and the California Technology Trade and Commerce Agency.

Hurle was named to the newly created CTO position at CalPERS in June 2016, where as part of his duties he has been providing direction and policy guidance to the CalPERS Information Technology Services Branch and aligning enterprise IT services and support, data center, applications, and network across CalPERS business units.

At Intel from 2000-09, Hurle was a vice president and general manager over worldwide IT operations and services, including the company's data centers, leading 1,700 employees in 27 countries, according to CalPERS.

Most recently, Hurle was managing director of Business Leadership Partners LLC, management consulting firm based in Flagstaff, Ariz.  He also was chief operating officer of VMC (2012-14), vice president of client solution for Volt Information Sciences (2009-12) in Sacramento, operation director for CDI and support services director for NCS Pearson.
