Former California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) CIO Liana Bailey-Crimmins has been selected as its chief health director, CalPERS CEO Marcie Frost told staff on Monday.

Bailey-Crimmins has been serving in the interim role since December and will permanently take over, effective immediately, the position overseeing health benefits and long-term care programs.

"Liana’s service to CalPERS over the years has been invaluable in helping us advance our technology goals, and she capably made a transition to overseeing our health benefits program. I‘m confident that her extensive administrative background and leadership ability will serve the organization well as we focus on the future cost and quality of health-care benefits for our members," Frost wrote in an email.

Ron Hurle will continue to serve as the interim CIO while CalPERS recruits for the position to lead the technology division.

Bailey-Crimmins was appointed CIO of CalPERS in 2013 and has worked in information technology for nearly three decades. She previously was the IT director and CIO of the California Correctional Health Care Services (2010-13).

Bailey-Crimmins has worked in IT for more than 24 years. Before CCHCS, she worked as the Project Director of the California Information Technology Infrastructure Project and supported connectivity of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Strategic Offender Management System (SOMS) and Business Information System (BIS).

Bailey-Crimmins has worked in the IT field of numerous state departments, including the State Controller’s Office and the California Technology Trade and Commerce Agency.
