Microsoft Appoints New Chief Technology Officer

Kevin Scott, senior vice president of Infrastructure at LinkedIn, has been named chief technology officer of Microsoft Corp.

Kevin Scott, senior vice president of Infrastructure at LinkedIn, has been named chief technology officer of Microsoft Corp.

As CTO, a newly created position at the company, Scott will “drive strategic, cross-company initiatives to maximize Microsoft’s impact with members and customers,” according to an announcement earlier this week. He will report to Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella.

“The thing that gets me up in the morning and that has always excited me about technology is its role in empowering people and helping to enrich their lives,” Scott said. “I am very optimistic about where Microsoft is headed and how we can continue to use technology to solve some of society’s most important challenges.”

Scott brings with him more than 20 years of experience in academia and industry. Prior to joining LinkedIn, he held several roles at Google and AdMob, and has been an adviser to a number of Silicon Valley Startups. He is also founder of the nonprofit organization Behind the Tech.

Even though he is taking on the position of CTO for Microsoft, Scott will continue his role as LinkedIn’s senior VP of Infrastructure and will remain a member of the company’s executive management team.
