The State Treasurer's Office (STO) has provided details about how it will spend the bulk of its budget for an upgrade to California's Debt Management System. STO is requesting $5.8 million in spending authority for the 2017-18 fiscal year, the majority of which will go to the project's system integrator as it completes a series of work orders on the project.

California is inching closer to achieving a single system for email and productivity tools across state government. By the end of 2017, the vast majority of email accounts kept by California's state government — perhaps 90 percent or more — will be hosted off-premises in Microsoft's government cloud.

The state of California will use a product from Accela for a licensing system that that will be deployed for the medical and recreational cannabis industry. State CIO Amy Tong told a legislative panel on Monday that the software was chosen via a competitive price quote and selected in part because of its ease of use and flexibility as California approaches a mandated Jan. 1, 2018 go-live deadline.

California is taking first steps toward implementing electronic systems for workers' compensation injury reports and what's called the "utilization review" process. The systems are mandated by legislation passed in 2016. The bill's author, state Sen. A Folsom, Calif.-based IT consulting firm has won a big piece of the state of California's child welfare system modernization project. The state Child Welfare Digital Services (CWDS) organization announced Friday that OnCore Consulting has been selected to provide deployment and implementation services for the project's Intake Digital Service."
