Many government agencies are seeking advice about how to begin their migration to the cloud. Charlie Eckstrom, CIO, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and Mike Makstman, Chief Information Security Office, City and County of San Francisco, will discuss their individual cloud migration projects during a panel discussion moderated by Phil Bertolini and Teri Takai, Center for Digital Government, e.Republic. Here are their stories:
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California no longer has to worry about hardware refreshes after re-platfoming PeopleSoft on OCI. They experienced an increase in performance, reduced the run time for nightly batches to minutes (from hours) and experienced increased system uptime, thereby eliminating their 24x7 IT support costs. They also implemented xloud-based disaster recovery to ensure they are always ready to respond and recover. Enhancing the ability to recover gives governments the opportunity to look forward and embrace new functionality securely,
The City and County of San Francisco had spent a significant amount of time managing secure access to applications across fifty different departments. After evaluating several cloud identity solutions, they chose Oracle Identity Cloud Service (IDCS) to support their MyApps dashboard serving a single sign-on portal for employees, retirees and suppliers to access critical applications. Having successfully moved the access management piece to IDCS, they are now migrating the identity governance side to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
