Pension and Health — my|CalPERS Functional Optimization. "A partner vendor will work collaboratively with key CalPERS staff in the definition, development and delivery of these optimizations." Due: 12/30/17, Currently: 56 percent complete

Pension and Health — Actuarial Valuation System Redesign & Enhance (AVSRE). "Demand has increased for more retirement valuations with greater details and complexity. Java will be the core application's programming language. Due: 10/30/18, Currently: 20 percent complete

Pension and Health — Customer Education Center (CEC) Redesign. "The Information Technology Branch will use internal CalPERS resources to redesign, build and replace the existing CEC application with a more efficient solution." The benefits include "streamlined appointment scheduling, class enrollment, and supports special education requests," among other improvements. Due 5/31/18, Currently: 35 percent complete

Information Technology Services Branch — Infrastructure Modernization. "The Infrastructure Modernization (IME) project’s objective is to replace the Oracle-engineered hardware platform, which is no longer supported, reducing compatibility issues while achieving a goal of infrastructure consolidation and standardization." They're moving on to PeopleSoft. Due: 6/30/17, Currently: 50 percent complete

Information Technology Services Branch — Windows 10 Upgrade. "This effort is the planning, designing, testing and implementation of Windows 10 Operating System for the enterprise." Windows 10 will roll out in 2017. Due: 12/31/17, Currently: 55 percent complete

Security Road Map — Enterprise Identity System (EIS). CalPERS selected the Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) product as the identity management tool that will be used. Due: 06/19/17, Currently: 20 percent complete

Security Road Map — my|CalPERS Database Encryption. "Assess and then implement a data protection encryption solution for the my|CalPERS database, which will protect sensitive CalPERS member information. Due: 6/30/17, Currently: 35 percent complete.

Security Road Map — Multi-Factor Authentication. "The Multi-Factor Authentication project will improve system access control and identity assurance across a wide range of systems. This project will provide an additional layer of validation through multi-factor authentication services, which require more than one verification method of identity before access is granted. In addition to supplying a password, additional verification methods may include a phone call, text message or other verification." Secured licenses for Microsoft Enterprise Management Suite. Due: 6/30/17, Currently: 40 percent complete.

Late last year CalPERS shuffled its executive management of information technology. Then-CalPERS CIO Liana Bailey-Crimmins became acting deputy executive officer for Benefit Programs, Policy and Planning, taking on the role formerly held by Doug McKeever, who was named chief deputy executive director for programs at Covered California. CalPERS Chief Technology Officer Ron Hurle was named the acting CIO at CalPERS.
