14 in Training for CIO Certification

Fourteen municipal IT specialists will be Certified Government Chief Information Officers when their current class graduates in June.

Fourteen municipal IT specialists will be Certified Government Chief Information Officers when their current class graduates in June, according to the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC).

The intensive training program is offered by the Public Technology Institute and Rutgers University Center for Government Services.

"The nationally recognized program is designed to equip government technology professionals with the requisite tools to demonstrate leadership skills to best manage your organization," said a Listserv notice posted by Ed Miranda, IT manager at the city of Fremont.

Six members of the current class come from the MISAC Southern Chapter: Isaac Aziz (Aliso Viejo's IT manager), Ian Cozens (Indio's IT manager), Michael Miazga (IT manager at the El Toro Water District), Darryl Polk (chief innovation officer and director of innovation and technology at the city of Rancho Cucamonga), Clayton von Helf (information systems manager at the city of Palm Desert), and William Wang, system analyst at the city of Torrance.

Four come from the Central Chapter: Miguel Guardado (network services supervisor at the city of San Luis Obispo), Robert Miller (IT manager at the city of West Sacramento), Lily Su (IT manager at the city of Sacramento), and Jason Takagi (IT manager at the city of Pismo Beach).

And four come from the Northern Chapter: Richard Bertalan (technology, infrastructure and communications systems manager at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority), Angie Blake (assistant information resources director at the city of Monterey), Ed Miranda (city of Fremont), and Gary Noffsinger (IT manager and an out-of-state Associate MISAC Member from Garfield County, Colo.).
