2 Key Government IT Roles in Recruitment in Silicon Valley

The roles — chief technology officer and PeopleSoft technical lead — require technical expertise as well as leadership skills. Both roles are in the heart of Silicon Valley and have six-figure salaries.

Two key Silicon Valley government entities are recruiting for key IT positions.

Santa Clara County is continuing its search for a chief technology officer to lead “efforts to renovate, modernize and transform the county’s technology and to adopt digital innovations to meet the broad business-enabled technology challenges of the county,” according to the job posting. “The CTO leads the county’s IT teams driving innovation, strategy, planning, architecture, technology standards and the application of best practices.”  

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Partner with the chief information officer (CIO), deputy CIO and other leaders to lead enterprise technology planning.
  • Advise on and guide the development of IT capabilities to match evolving business, market, and technology capabilities.
  • Advise on advantages, limitations and tradeoffs of established strategies, architectures and technology.
  • Drive innovation to address both the business-enabled technology challenges and internal technology needs of county IT through the use of industry-leading processes and techniques for ideation and incubation.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of technology to accelerate the modernization and transformation of county IT.
  • Lead analysis of the technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the technology vision, strategy and enterprise architecture.
  • Oversee and lead the development of long-term and short-term technology strategies and road maps and provide key inputs to the county IT budget and strategic plan.
  • Lead teams of county IT and business staff on projects using agile principles, accelerated timelines and (at times) outside of normal and accepted county procedures.
The position has an annual salary range of $248,892 to $302,533, and the recruitment will continue until the role is filled.

The city of San Jose is recruiting for a PeopleSoft technical lead (enterprise supervising technology analyst) to “be responsible for overseeing and managing technical support and application development for the Oracle PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) 9.2 Payroll, Time and Labor (T&L), Benefits, and Absence Management modules.”

According to the job posting, “This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills as well as the ability to take initiative and lead others. We are seeking an individual with a willingness to adapt to an ever-changing environment.”

Desirable qualifications for this position include demonstrable knowledge of and experience with “applicable professional/technical principles and practices including enterprise architecture, technical project management, application lifecycle management, and applicable industry applications/systems platform tools; and, breadth of expertise to manage major technology services, programs, and products across multiple departmental technology environments and ensure cross coordination between departments, including adherence with citywide and departmental procedures/policies and federal and state rules and regulations.”

The position has an annual salary range of $113,464 to $138,236.
