Agencies Recruiting for Information Security, Disaster Recovery Roles

Departments including the California Highway Patrol and the State Water Resources Control Board are seeking IT expertise for key positions.

State agencies are recruiting for several significant leadership or executive IT roles. Here are three:

  • The California Highway Patrol is advertising for a Recovery and Continuity Coordinator (RCC) to oversee disaster recovery and business continuity for the department’s Information Security Program. The RCC (IT Specialist II) reports to the Chief Information Officer and will be responsible for developing, evaluating and maintaining plans and methodology to “ensure the department’s ability to recover in the event of an unforeseen disruption to facilities, technology systems, or applications.” The position has a monthly salary range of $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is Oct. 28.   • The State Water Resources Control Board is recruiting for an Information Security Officer (ISO) to oversee agency employees and consultants and administer the information security program activities. The ISO (IT Manager I) provides leadership in project planning and management of information security. “The ISO also provides consultation to customers, project teams and executive management on risk analysis, mitigation strategies, protection of data and other information security related assets, and ensures adequacy of implemented safeguards. The ISO leads in strategic business and tactical planning, development and maintenance of policies, processes, standards and procedures as they relate to the security and operational recovery of informational data and systems.” The position has a monthly salary range of $7,634 to $10,230, and the application deadline is Nov. 7.   • The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is recruiting for an IT Specialist II. The position requires knowledge of database management and extensive experience with data analysis software such as Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) and Structured Query Language (SQL). “The specialist also devises and implements highly advanced computer program code for merging many extremely large and complex administrative data systems that frequently are not integrated,” according to the job listing. In addition, the specialist helps identify emerging technical data needs, defining strategies for developing and obtaining new data, and how to utilize the data to frame policy making decisions. The position has a monthly salary range of $6,777 to $9,081, and the application deadline is Nov. 1.
