Agencies Seek to Fill Executive, Managerial Roles in IT

One of the positions in recruitment is for a deputy director, and the other is for an IT supervisor to oversee technology infrastructure.

Two state agencies are recruiting for IT leadership positions — one for a deputy director, and the other for an IT supervisor to oversee technology infrastructure.

The California State Lottery is seeking a deputy director for the IT Services Division (Career Executive Assignment), “responsible for the vision, strategic direction, policy development and management of the Lottery’s IT systems and the supporting infrastructure,” the job posting says. “These systems include an on-premise computing environment, various cloud-hosted environments and third-party service providers that support the Lottery business applications and services.”

Additional responsibilities for the position, according to the duty statement, include:

  • Provides guidance and support to Lottery executive staff and their divisions to implement short- and long-range business plans. 
  • Manages a multibillion-dollar gaming contract that supports and interacts with the entire Lottery enterprise.
  • Develops strategic direction for the division and the Lottery’s IT infrastructure environment and oversees the implementation of these strategies.
  • Establishes, implements and enforces policies, procedures, methodologies and standards for IT and information security work performed by Lottery staff.
  • Manages the overall resources of the division including staffing, budget and expenditures, equipment and space.
The monthly salary range for this position is $10,360 to $12,341, and the application deadline is Sept. 24.

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) is recruiting for an IT Supervisor II to manage the department’s Information Technology Infrastructure Unit.

The unit “encompasses all aspects of network operations, physical and virtual servers, clustering systems, back office systems, enterprise systems administration, performance and availability monitoring, information security, desktop configuration management and support, procurement, support contracts, risk assessments, enterprise backup solutions, disaster recovery planning and testing, intranet and internet websites, and all related control agency requirements and reporting obligations,” according to the job posting.

General responsibilities include:

  • Network operations and Web shop oversight
  • Project management and oversight, departmental initiatives
  • Supervision and staff development
  • IT business and administrative functions
  • Statewide or agency projects and Initiatives
In addition, the duty statement for the position says the IT Supervisor II “may serve as DPR’s project manager or representative on numerous departmental, agency level, or statewide initiatives, and has the responsibility of managing complex and time-sensitive workloads. This position supports the following domains: Software Engineering, System Engineering, Business Technology Management, and Information Technology Project Management.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,263 to $9,731, and the application deadline is Sept. 9.
