Agencies Seeking Chief Technologist, Architect, Bureau Chief

State agencies are seeking to fill some key IT positions, including one with the state employee retirement system and one with the California Department of Technology.

State agencies are recruiting for some key IT positions including a chief technology officer (CTO), an engineering and solutions architect and a bureau chief.

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) is seeking a chief technology officer (Career Executive Assignment) to serve as a member of the senior IT leadership team and to provide direction and policy guidance to the Technology Infrastructure Services Division and the Information Technology Services Branch.

The CTO “provides direction on enterprise technology infrastructure services across all of CalPERS retirement, health, and investment programs,” the job posting says. “This position has broad authority and management responsibility for achieving necessary synergies between business units, products, and technology services, including customer technology services and support, and data center services. The CTO aligns services responsible for computer operations and production, service desk, desktop support, voice and data networks, data center systems, and server support.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $10,360 to $12,412, and the application deadline is April 9.

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is recruiting for a DevOps engineering/solutions architect (IT specialist II) to assume “significant responsibilities for technical support for all Office of Enterprise Technology and other business requests,” the job posting says. That support also includes the areas of DevSecOps (development, security and operations) consulting, infrastructure/configuration management, and automation for “build and release” engineering, database and data. In addition, the architect “optimizes and applies architecture solutions” and plays a key role in advising management or formulating information technology strategy within the organization, with a strong focus on DevSecOps principles.

The California Department of Social Services is recruiting for an automation and innovation bureau chief (staff services manager III) to manage system alignment with department modernization efforts, according to the job posting.

The bureau chief will work under the Enterprise Data Management Branch chief to “synthesize program needs” and work within the department to “automate data capture, enhance client and worker experiences, and innovate alongside the changing data, software, technology, and enterprise data landscape,” the posting says. “The incumbent encourages and supports human-centered design and inclusive stakeholder engagement.”
