Pondera Solutions, the Gold River-based firm specializing in preventing, detecting and resolving government waste, fraud and abuse, is adding to its IT, data science and sales teams.

Pondera President Greg Loos said Friday, in an exclusive interview with Techwire, that the company is “hitting on all fronts.”

“Since the summertime, we’ve grown our employee base north of 60 percent,” said Loos, who was promoted to his current role in December.

A month later, Tim McCormick was named vice president of sales for Pondera, which CEO and founder Jon Coss said reflected the company’s growth and plans for more.

Loos said the company is hiring data scientists, fraud and waste investigators for its Special Investigations Unit, and account executives.

The data experts, Loos said, “are going to focus on ... finding unknowns in the data, essentially looking at schemes, building those schemes into rules, and looking for more unknowns. We use the Kaizen method of constant improvement.”

McCormick said the emphasis on data science and investigations reflect the necessity of Pondera to “stay one step ahead of a fraudulent biller.”

He said the firm is hiring account executives who have 15-plus years’ experience “in the Northeast, the Southeast — wherever our clients are.”

Pondera, based in Gold River near Sacramento, also has offices in Tallahassee, Fla.

McCormick said the company is pleased to have landed some new clients — “some are larger customers in larger states like California and New York.”

Because of its focus on rooting out fraud, Pondera executives are reluctant to discuss specific clients, technologies, trends and techniques.

That should serve as a tip to those who may want to work for Pondera: “We need to really find experienced data people who are comfortable with government programs, program integrity requirements — making sure the right people are getting paid,” McCormick said.
