Bay Area County, State Recruiting for Key IT Roles

One position calls for extensive experience in information security, and the other requires expertise in servers and related software. The recruitment period for both positions ends this month.

A Bay Area county and a large state government department are recruiting for key leadership positions in IT.

Contra Costa County, in the Bay Area, has opened a recruitment for a chief information security officer (CISO).

The CISO “is responsible for developing policies and strategies for the internal and external posturing of the County’s information technology systems,” the job posting says. “As a senior manager, this person must demonstrate a high degree of initiative and dependability to meet the County’s business needs with flexible, user-friendly options. At the same time, the CISO will provide subject matter expertise to executive management on security standards and best practices regarding computer operations, logical access controls, system development, and data communications security.” Duties include:

  • Acting as the central point of contact for the county for IT-related incidents or violations.
  • Conducting security risk assessments and business impact analyses of all county departments to ensure a comprehensive countywide IT security posture.
  • Managing security incidents and events to protect county IT assets, including intellectual property, fixed assets, public data and the county’s reputation.
  • Developing effective disaster recovery policies and standards and developing implementation plans and procedures to ensure that business-critical services are recovered in the event of a declared disaster. 
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Security, Computer Science, Communications, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Applicants should have two years’ experience as CISO, with five to eight years of security experience, and will have one or more of the following certifications:
• National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
• Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)

The position, which is based in Martinez, has an annual salary range of $137,023 to $166,553, and the application deadline is July 23. More information is available online.

The state Department of Motor Vehicles is recruiting for a Server and AD Messaging Manager (IT Manager I) to direct the activities of the department’s Server Support, Active Directory, Messaging, Enterprise Application and Cloud teams. This is an expert-level position, the job posting says. “These highly technical teams are the expert-level support teams for DMV’s network computing infrastructure. Adherence to DMV security, policies and procedures is required.”

Desirable skills and knowledge for this position include installing, configuring, upgrading and maintaining Windows server hardware and software, VMware or other virtualization technology, Office 365, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Brocade Fibre switching, EMC SAN, AWS cloud infrastructure; strong leadership; and highly technical project management experience.

The monthly salary range for this position is $7,634 to $10,230, and the application deadline is July 29.
