The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) is recruiting for a deputy director for technology, who would advise the director, the chief deputy director and the state fire marshal on programs and policies related to technology.

In addition, the deputy director would directly manage the chief of telecommunications, the chief information officer and the chief over research and development, according to the job posting.

The other desirable skills and qualifications for the position include:

  • Ability to evaluate products from multiple perspectives (customers, stakeholders, vendors, best practices) to develop standards for product approvals.
  • Ability to develop/obtain consensus on policy direction that will ensure continuation of the development portion of projects and help ensure successful completion.
  • Experience improving operational standards and procedures and the methods in the way programs effectively deploy and utilize technology.
  • In-depth administrative and operational experience in areas related to research and development, information technology, and telecommunications.
  • Ability to evaluate a wide variety of technology solutions and to develop policy that will ensure statewide critical technological systems are deployed and utilized evenly and effectively across the department.
This position, which is a Career Executive Assignment, has a monthly salary range of $10,360 to $12,341, and the application deadline is April 11.
