For the fiscal year of 2017-18, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has a budget of more than $3.2 billion. Of this, about $95 million is allocated to its IT department.
According to its website, the mission of CDPH is to optimize the health and well-being of all Californians and contribute to positive health outcomes for individuals, families and communities.
In April 2016, CDPH launched Public Health 2035. The goal, as stated on CDPH’s website, is that by 2035, it will be helping communities realize their visions through public health policies, guidelines, funding opportunities, technical assistance and workforce development.
The Center for Health Statistics and Informatics, under CDPH, works to improve the public’s health by developing data systems and facilitating the collection, validation, analysis and dissemination of health information and demographic information on the state's population. The center includes Vital Records, Public Health Policy and Research, and Public Health Informatics.
The Center for Health Statistics and Informatics will receive an increase of $659,000 to fund projects.
The first project will replace the California Vital Statistics Query system to provide privacy and increased access and availability of timely data and vital statistics for the public, policymakers, state departments and the media.
A second project will collect demographic data on ancestry or ethnic origin of Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations.
The last project will facilitate the acceptance of electronic acknowledgements when requests for certified copies of birth, death, or marriage records are made electronically.
The Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion will invest $480,000 into conducting a Project Approval Life Cycle for a new database covering surveillance, health, intervention and environmental lead. The database will support electronic laboratory reporting of blood lead tests, management of lead-exposed children and assessment of sources of lead.
The CDPH has an open RFP to implement a federally approved management information system transfer system for California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, apply modifications to meet California’s requirements, implement the solution statewide and support the system.
The base contract is for a period of three years, with four potential one-year extensions. All bids must be submitted by Sept. 8 to be considered.
