The head of the California Department of Technology is scheduled to appear Wednesday before the Senate Rules Committee in a step toward his official confirmation as director.
It’s the second time Carlos Ramos must go through the Senate confirmation process thanks to a government reorganization last year, department spokesman Anthony Lewis confirmed via email.
When Gov. Jerry Brown reorganized state government, he elevated the California Technology Agency into a department. Ramos, who headed the agency, was named director, and that "triggered the confirmation requirement," Lewis said.
“He is driving efforts to modernize IT procurements by holding public forums with the vendor community and he is providing increased oversight over the many IT implementations being managed by departments and agencies,” said technology industry spokesperson Carol Henton in a letter of support of Ramos’ confirmation. “Carlos strives for consensus and is respected by individuals both inside state government and in the private sector.”
Ramos is scheduled to appear for a confirmation hearing at 1:30 p.m.on Wednesday in Room 113 at the State Capitol.
The state Senate first confirmed Ramos in March 2012.
