Caltrans' Biggest Spends: Laptops, Routers and Storage

The California Department of Transportation has spent tens of millions of dollars on IT goods so far this year, as might be expected from one of the largest departments in the nation’s most populous state.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has spent tens of millions of dollars on IT goods so far this year, as might be expected from one of the largest departments in the nation’s most populous state.

The five largest purchases in the first half of this year, from Jan. 1 through June 30, were laptops, routers and cloud storage and related services. Specifically, from largest to smallest spend:

  • The department’s biggest single expenditure during the period was $6,665,242, spent with NWN Corp. for HP laptops.
  • Caltrans spent $4,268,672 with PC Specialists for laptop workstations.
  • The department spent $1,972,139 for storage, purchased through Teranomic.
  • Caltrans spent $970,211 for wireless Wi-Fi routers, purchased through CDCE Inc.
  • The department spent $934,500 for cloud-based object storage, purchased through Mythics Inc.
