Caltrans Recruiting for 4 Branch Chief Positions

The IT manager II positions are based in Sacramento and all report to the chief technology officer. Creation of the jobs is contingent upon approval from the state Department of Finance.

The California Department of Transportation is recruiting to fill four branch chief positions, all of which include IT leadership and all of which are based in Sacramento, according to the job postings.

The deadline to apply for all four positions, which call for IT manager II job eligibility, is May 9, and the salary range for each is $8,949 to $10,877. Creation of the positions is contingent upon approval from the state Department of Finance. Each description below contains a link to the job posting, and the postings all include an online application option. 

The job descriptions are:

Chief of End-User Support Branch: Under general direction from the chief technology officer (CTO), the incumbent serves as chief of the End-User Support Branch (ESB), which is comprised of the Desktop Support Services Section, Enterprise Services Section, and Software License and Configuration Management Section. The incumbent oversees these three business sections that are responsible for supporting over 19,000 Caltrans employees. The incumbent has full management responsibility for policies, standards, processes, and procedures for the analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and operation of Caltrans' Information Technology (IT) services, as well as full management responsibility for organizing, planning, coordinating, directing and controlling all activities associated with the day-to-day operations of the ESB.   

Chief of Infrastructure Services Branch: Under general direction from the CTO, the incumbent serves as chief of the Infrastructure Services Branch (ISB), which comprises the Database and Middleware Management Section, Network Engineering Services Section, Server Infrastructure and Identity Access Management Section, Storage Engineering and Data Protection Services Section, and the Network and Video Operations Management Section. The ISB chief oversees one of the most complex infrastructures in the state and has full management responsibility for policies, standards, processes, and procedures for the analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and operation of Caltrans' IT infrastructure. The ISB chief has full management responsibility for organizing, planning, coordinating, directing and controlling all activities associated with the day-to-day operations of the ISB.  

Chief of IT Operations — Northern California: Under general direction from the CTO, the incumbent serves as chief of Information Technology Operations for the Northern California (ITOps NorCal) districts. The ITOps NorCal is part of the Caltrans IT Infrastructure Management Division (IMD). The incumbent oversees the IT operations for six districts, which includes Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 10. The incumbent has full management responsibility for the policies, standards, processes, and procedures for the analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and operation of IT services in the above mentioned districts.

Chief of IT Operations — Southern California: Under general direction from the CTO, the incumbent serves as chief of Information Technology Operations for the Southern California (ITOps Socal) districts. The IT operations for Southern California is part of the Caltrans IT Infrastructure Management Division. The incumbent oversees the IT operations for six districts, which includes Districts 5, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12. The incumbent has full management responsibility for policies, standards, processes, and procedures for the analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and operation of IT services in the above mentioned districts.
