Okuhara started his IT career with the state in 2000, specializing in project management, and served various roles with the state Department of Education, the Office of Technology Services, and the California Department of Technology. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, and received his bachelor’s in electrical engineering at Sac State.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity,” Okuhara told Techwire. “My experience at CDT has certainly prepared me for this new challenge.”
Stockton’s new CTO said: “We have two main priorities: a major ERP [enterprise resource planning] implementation, and a move from downtown to the waterfront.”
Okuhara’s responsibilities with the city will include oversight of app development, the project management office, the city data center, and IT networks. He reports to Stockton’s new CIO, Norbert Ruijling.
Okuhara said the move will also enable him to spend more time with his family.
