CDTFA, Secretary of State Recruit to Fill Key IT Positions

Two crucial state government departments are recruiting for important positions, one dealing with finance and the other with cybersecurity.

The California Secretary of State’s Office and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) are recruiting for important IT-related positions.

The Secretary of State is seeking a principal cybersecurity architect, an IT Specialist III classification with oversight of operations and technology considered crucial to the state.

“The incumbent is an expert level adviser and … may direct the most critical/complex projects where the consequences of error may have a serious detrimental effect on the operating efficiency and security of the SOS,” the job listing says. “This position represents the highest level of expertise available in state services working to support the systems and services of the System Engineering, Software Engineering, IT Project Management and Information Security Engineering domains.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,471 to $10,012. More information and a link to apply are available online.  

The CDTFA, which recently promoted Scott Capulong to chief information officer, is recruiting to fill his previous role as project manager of the department’s Centralized Revenue Opportunity System (CROS).

The CROS project director “will represent the CDTFA in ongoing contracts related to the project with the Department of Technology, Department of Finance, state control agencies, Legislature, advocate and constituents and statewide organizations on matters concerning the work of the project,” says the Career Executive Assignment (C.E.A.) job posting, which includes a link to apply.

Requirements include:

  • High-level experience communicating with elected officials, executive-level management, other state agencies, legislative staff, industry, local governments, etc.
  • Strong leadership ability including knowledge of the techniques for planning, organizing, motivating and evaluating multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to foster effective IT system user engagement and stakeholder buy-in for large enterprise projects involving significant organizational change.
  • Knowledge and principles of project management.
  • Knowledge and experience with the California legislative and budgetary processes, state control agencies, and other governmental entities.
  • Proven ability to anticipate, analyze and resolve complex problems.
 The position has a monthly salary range of $10,010 to $11,924.
