Child Support Department Seeking CIO/Deputy Director

The CIO will oversee one of the state’s largest IT systems, the Child Support  Enforcement system, which is used by more than 7,000 Child Support employees to manage 1.2 million customers.

The state Department of Child Support Services is recruiting to fill the dual role of chief information officer and deputy director of the department’s Technology Services Division.

The position had been filled until recently by Sumi Smith, whose LinkedIn profile now identifies her as chief of data and information architecture for the state Employment Development Department. An EDD spokesperson confirmed Monday that Smith is now working for EDD as an Information Technology manager II. 

Andrea Hoffman, who most recently has worked for the California Department of Technology (CDT), will serve as acting CIO of DCSS, said Dana Simas, DCSS’ director of communications.

The job description posted online says: “The CIO, in consultation with the DCSS Directorate, is responsible for the overall direction of the department's information technology efforts and continuously seeks to leverage the most current technological innovations and IT business practices to improve the service delivery to child support customers. The DCSS CIO is responsible for ensuring that DCSS automation systems comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations. …”

The posting is a Career Executive Assignment (C.E.A.), with a monthly salary range of $10,010 to $11,924. The application deadline is June 6.
