CompTIA Wants to See Changes in IT Procurement

The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has surveyed public- and private-sector representatives to create a list of recommendations for state and local IT procurement improvements.

The national associations of State Chief Administrators, State Chief Information Officers and State Procurement Officers were all represented in the responses.

"The public sector didn't really have a great view on it," CompTIA SLED (state, local and education) Director Jennifer Saha said. "But the private sector had a very dismal outlook on if states are getting the best value, if they're getting the most cost savings and if they're getting the most innovative technology."

Saha presented the results at the Techwire Los Angeles County Briefing on Nov. 8.

One tip was "crafting RFIs and RFPs in a manner that encourages solutions in the private sector, as opposed to prescriptive." Others were to "open a procurement to negotiations" or modernize "IT acquisition strategies to enable innovation."

Using an agile procurement process was also suggested.
