The Los Angeles County Probation Department is recruiting for a Resource Manager (IT Manager I) in the Project Management Office. 

The responsibilities of the position include optimizing staff use, supporting project-related IT governance functions and facilitating project intake. The following duties are among a long list included in the job posting

  • Participates in project governance by providing information on resource capability and availability to assist the department in determining which projects can be accomplished and prioritizing accordingly.
  • Manages the department’s technology project portfolio by compiling up-to-date information on project status and health to support the department’s governance in establishing priorities and supporting project success.
  • Maintains a library of tools and templates for the Department’s IT project management methodology and standards by documenting standards established by the PMO Director, maintaining version control, and making documents accessible to staff in a shared library to support effective work methods and project success.
  • Serve as the point of contact for project initiation and provide guidance on development of business cases to provide effective service and support governance decision-making. 
The criteria for selection include a two-part multiple-choice exam. Responses are weighted, with 60 percent measuring deductive reasoning ability, management potential, professional potential, achievement, flexibility, confidence and optimism, thoroughness, sense of duty, innovation, influence and independence. Forty percent of a candidate’s application measures three areas: project management, software business analysis and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) concepts.
