Covered California Recruiting for CIO

The CIO "is responsible for the overall design, development and execution of Covered California’s information technology strategy, while effectively leading the Information Technology Division,” the posting says.

Covered California, the state agency that works to ensure health insurance availability for 1.5 million state residents, is recruiting for a new chief information officer.

The CIO, working under the chief deputy executive director of operations, “is responsible for the overall design, development and execution of Covered California’s information technology strategy, while effectively leading the Information Technology Division (ITD),” the job posting says.

“The CIO provides executive leadership over complex enterprise-wide business information technology solutions, within a consumer-facing, sales environment. The CIO represents Covered California’s information technology initiatives with stakeholders, including state and federal government agencies, vendors, health plans, and other users of the systems.”

Desirable qualifications for the position include:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in information technology leadership, strategy and oversight; bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Software Engineering, Information Technology Management and Project Management or equivalent education and experience. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and experience leading technological development and implementation of integrated, enterprise-wide business technology solutions for a large, complex mission critical operation.
  • Demonstrated experience representing the Board of Directors and executive director with high-level stakeholders on information technology matters.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating and facilitating information technology governance processes and managing information systems within health care or a similar highly regulated industry.
The department is not disclosing the salary requirements but says the “very competitive compensation range” is commensurate with the candidate’s experience. The application deadline is April 26.
