The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) is recruiting for a cloud architect (IT specialist III) to take responsibility for developing and implementing a cloud framework and methodology for the department.

The architect makes recommendations on cloud policies, compliance and cloud IT developments. “At the mastery level,” the job posting says, the architect “maintains first-rate architectural, pioneering and presentation skills for creative facilitation, organization, and reporting.”

According to the job posting, the architect “serves as the cloud solutions architecture lead at the mastery level in the evaluation and selection of technology standards/governance processes to ensure cloud solutions are aligned with CDSS strategic goals and objectives,” working with IT staff in other service areas to ensure development of cost-effective solutions to meet customers’ business needs.

Responsibilities of the role, according to the duty statement, include:
  • Lead cloud solutions architect: The ITS III serves as a subject matter expert for all cloud architecture and infrastructure design initiatives. (40 percent)
  • Research and Development: The ITS III will maintain a high level of knowledge and mastery of cloud-related infrastructure and architectural technologies through ongoing research and development. (30 percent)
  • Consulting: The ITS III is the subject matter expert in the areas of cloud computing. This role comes with the expectation that the ITS III represents CDSS in a consulting capacity with vendors, business units and customers. (15 percent)
  • Mentoring and Training: The ITS III is expected to possess mastery-level knowledge and skills in cloud computing and technologies. It is the responsibility of the (cloud architect) to train and mentor junior-level CDSS staff to elevate the overall functional level of cloud computing proficiency within the enterprise. (10 percent)

The position has a monthly salary range of $8,488 to $11,375, and the application deadline is Friday.
